Student Enterprise Awards

WINNERS ANNOUNCED …
LOUTH STUDENT ENTERPRISE AWARDS 2016

Local Enterprise Office Louth hosted the County Finals of the Student Enterprise Awards on Tuesday 1 March and we were delighted to welcome 200 students to the event. The competition is an exciting and rewarding experience for young people, creating a culture where students think more readily of becoming entrepreneurs and setting up their own business in the future.

It enhances their creativity, improves communication skills and provides practical uses for business studies topics. Speaking at the event Peggy McGlynn said “This year saw 49 mini companies from second level schools in the county making it to county final. Companies ranged from portable golf posts stabiliser weights made from recycled tyres and wooden charms on silver metal bangles to 3D printing company, Tye-dye and vintage products to a stationary but portable aid for use in the development of ball catching skills among young players.

There were also baby bibs with soothers attached and an audio revision guide for junior certificate students. Food products included delicious ice cream made from goats’ milk, milkshakes, cupcakes and we also had a keen photographer who made calendars with photographs of her local area. Recruiteen.com runner up has an online service for consumers and businesses to recruit teens.

It was great to see the levels of enterprise and innovation amongst the students. Student Enterprise Awards continues to offer students the opportunity to take a business from the idea stage, through market research to production, selling, record keeping, management and finally writing a comprehensive report on their activities.

A big thank you to all the teachers who support and encourage these mini companies year after year and our thanks also to our judges, who are an independent panel of business experts”.

Prizes were awarded to 11 companies in Senior category including ‘Meachan’ from Colaiste Ris who will represent Louth at National Finals in Croke Park in April together with Intermediate category winner ‘Shockets’ from Colaiste Chu Chulainn and Junior category winner ‘The Boring Postcard Co’ from Dundalk Grammar School
